WNC clergy who are in full connection, provisional members, associate members, and local pastors are required to attend the Western North Carolina Annual Conference meeting, June 15-18, 2023. Annual Conference will be live-streamed for at-home viewing, but registration and full participation (including voting) is only possible in person.
If you are not able to attend in person, please request an excused absence.
You can make that request HERE.
Clergy who are retired or are on leave of absence are automatically excused if they are not able to attend.
If you are a lay member of conference representing your local church/charge and find that you cannot attend, please pass this material to your pastor, who will give it to the alternate lay member. Member information should be updated by your pastor or church staff directly in the Church Leaders page of the Church Dashboard until June 1st.
District at-large members who can’t come should notify their district office.
Thank you for your faithful ministry and leadership in the conference and the kingdom.
In order to participate in the upcoming lay elections at the Annual Conference in June, each lay member is expected to bring a device capable of connecting to the internet or a cellular network, such as a tablet, laptop, or smartphone.
In a letter to the clergy and laity of the Western North Carolina Conference, Bishop Carter shares thoughts on the lead up to the May 6 special called session of the Annual Conference and preliminary results from the disaffiliation votes.
With less than 50 paper ballots still out, the Conference issued a provisional statement that the motion passed with approximately 96% of the vote approving the disaffiliations and approximately 4% disapproving. The 192 churches, representing about 15 percent of the membership of the Conference, will be allowed to continue with the disaffiliation process as laid out in Paragraph 2553 of The United Methodist Book of Discipline.
